In the time of Isaiah's day the nation was oppressed, weary and dim. Sin filled the land and the world was absent of joy. War, business affairs, family matters, along with personal and corporate sin filled the airwaves and darkened the atmosphere.
"Joy to the World," is an exhortation to awaken us to rejoice at the coming of Christ into a cheerless depreciating world. Isaiah's declaration was a burst of hope as he declared to the nation, the dimness will not go on forever! Great joy is coming to the world!
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Along with the gospel comes joy! Families can love again, business can thrive again, and peace will flow again. So as we have heard it, "Joy to the world the Lord is come, let earth receive her King!"
"Nature sings because of the joy Jesus brings!"
